Mt. Ramelau, the highest mountain in Timor-Leste, summits at 2963 meters above sea level and offers views of the north and south coast on a bright clear day. On a typical day its peak floats above the clouds providing the most spectacular sunset and sunrise for trekkers while overnight tempreature drops to freezeing cold all year round. Trekking to the summit takes approximately 3 hours from the highland village of Hato Builiko.

Upon Arrival at Nicolau Lobato International Airport, be met by Island Explorer staff and proceed with a brief Dili City Tour.
The tour begins with a stop at Tasitolu Peace Park, where the three salt lakes are being established as a park and reserve, continuing to Pope John Paul II monument sitting remarkably high offering a peaceful view of the area. This statue commemorates his visit to Timor Leste in October 1984. Then drive pass the Palacio de Govierno, Casa Europa, Motael Church, the Farol Lighthouse, the Presidential Palace and short stop at the Tais Market. The final tour takes you to the Jesus Statue (Crestorae) located a top Cape Fatucama on the eastern tip of Dili.

0700 hrs Breakfast at the Hotel
0800 hrs Travel south through a continuously winding road until you reach Dare to see the war memorial, this place also offers magnificent views of Dili. Drive through the coffee plantation to Becilau before descending to the historical town of Aileu, in the central ranges, for a short coffee break.
Continues the journey through picturesque countryside to the next main town, Maubessi. The traditional house, called Umalulik (cone shaped built with bamboo or mud) can be spotted throughout the drive. We will stop at Pousada se Maubesse, a former Portuguese rest house for lunch.
As we drive up the mountain ranges to Hatobuiliko, the landscape changes dramatically and temperature drops to very cold.

0300 hrs Stars early to trek to the summit, see the Statue of Virgin Mary standing at 2,963m above the sea level and marvel at the beautiful sunrise.
0700 hrs Return to the guesthouse for breakfast and continue the same route back to Dili with a stop at Aileu for lunch.

It is most important to be flexible, stay positive and willing to accept all challenges that arise. In developing countries remote area, please do not compare with the standards you are used to back home. The climb up to Mt. Ramelau is quite difficult, with slippery rocks and landslides.
The Guest house is a very simple and basic, electricity will only be available from 7pm to 12midnight.
Please expect simple dishes at the guest house.
