We at Island Explorer Holidays have design several type of day tour for our valuble client to get to know Timor Leste.
7:30am: Pick up from hotel for trip to Baucau Timor-Leste’s second largest city, just a 3hour drive from Dili. The drive offers spectacular views along the coastline and rugged cliffs. The cool pleasant climate and outstanding beaches will greet you. The city has many old Portuguese buildings, wonderful colourful markets and unspoiled beaches.
LUNCH at Pousada de Baucau (Own cost).
Visit the Japanese bomb shelter tunnel from WWII about 8km from Venilale, after the Escola, see the spectacular Vaicana Hot Springs before heading back to Dili.
7:30am: Pick up from hotel and travel along the north coastline going west all the way to Liquica through Taci Tolo (famous for its 3 smalllakes) and Tibar. We will stop at the ruins of Aipelo, a former Portuguese Prison, before arriving at the fishing village of Liquica.
Drive to Maubara to visit the Fort of Maubara, built by the Dutch in the 1850’s, a building that generated many disputes between the Dutch and Portuguese during that time.
LUNCH at Gloria Restaurant or Fort of Maubara (Own cost). Then continue to drive from Carimbala to Loes with a stop at The Bemalae Lagoon before arriving at the Batugade, on the border of Timor-Leste and Indonesia. Visit an ancient Portuguese garrison before heading south to the mountain range of Balibo, where a group of Australian journalist were murdered by Indonesian troops in October 1975.
7:30am: Pick up from hotel and drive along the north coast, we first stop by the memorial of Pope John Paul II in Taci-Tolo, near the airport. We then continue westwards along the coast to Tibar and then southwards to Railaco and Gleno, the capital of Ermera district at the core of coffee region; we’ll travel under magnificent and huge Madre-del-cacao trees which provides shade and protection for the coffee plants.
After Gleno we take the road to Seloi lagoon on our way to Aileu, a lovely village with a lot of history and old monuments; we will tour the village and have lunch in a local restaurant (own cost). If time permits, we´ll make a short visit to a coffee plantation before heading to Becilau and Dare, on the outskirts of Dili.

It is most important to be flexible, stay positive and willing to accept all challenges that arise. In developing countries remote areas, please do not compare with the standards you are used to back home.
